Changing your registration mid-year
How the copilot's update mode shows only what your change touches, and when a change is an update rather than the yearly renewal.
Updated
To change something in an active SAM.gov registration before its renewal is due, start the copilot with Change something in my active registration. It asks what changed first, then shows only the sections those changes touch, in SAM.gov's order. You make the change on SAM.gov yourself, with the worksheet beside you.
Is my change an update or a renewal?
A change to an Active registration before its renewal is due, such as a new address, bank account, contacts or codes, is an update. The yearly renewal of an Active registration, or of one that has expired, is a renewal: start a renewal in the copilot for that. The guide on whether to update or renew says how the two differ.
What does the copilot ask first?
In the copilot, choose Change something in my active registration and give the UEI, so Firmenza can offer to load what the public record shows. Nothing is put into a field until you choose to use it.
Its first question is Firmenza's own, What changed?: contacts only; bank account (EFT); legal business name or address; from Financial Assistance to All Awards; NAICS or PSC codes; or something else, which shows every section, as on a renewal. You tick everything that changed, and you can change that answer later.
Which sections does the update mode show?
Only the sections your changes touch, in SAM.gov's order, with the opening screens and the submit step. Contacts only shows the points of contact. A bank account shows the financial information. A new legal name or physical address shows the business and tax information, and goes through SAM.gov's entity validation again, with documents, so have them ready before you start.
For any change but the contacts, the certification sections are shown too. Each one comes after its own plain-language notice, and none is ever pre-filled, defaulted or suggested: you answer every certification yourself.
What does SAM.gov's own guide say about an update?
SAM.gov's guide to updating a registration says a change to anything but the points of contact updates the entire registration, certifications included. It does not show the screens after a contacts-only update, so for that change Firmenza shows the opening screens, the points of contact and the submit step.
Firmenza has not yet walked an update on SAM.gov's current screens, so a screen may differ from that guide.
Who makes the change on SAM.gov?
You do. An update is self-serve: you make the change on SAM.gov yourself, signed in with your own Login.gov account, with the worksheet beside you. Nobody else may sign in as you to make it.
On an update, Record that I submitted does not put the renewal-submitted line on your watch list. That line comes only from a renewal worksheet.
Will my watch list notice the change?
Once the change shows on the public record, a read of a watched registration compares it with the read before: a changed legal business name, physical address, CAGE code, name of the government or electronic business point of contact, or NAICS codes comes as one dated line. The guide to your watch list and reminders says what else the watch sends.
Free help also exists: APEX Accelerators (DoD-funded, free) and the Federal Service Desk will help you at no charge. We built Firmenza to be useful alongside them.
